Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s surprise return to WWE breaks viewership records, highest since CM Punk’s RAW debut in nine years.

Dwyane ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s shock return to the WWE has led to a huge increase in viewing figures on Monday Night RAW.

The 51-year-old last appeared in the  WWE back in September when he told Pat McAfee there were talks for him to take on Reigns at WrestleMania 39.

However, those plans fell through and led many to speculate he could make his long-anticipated return next year.

Now, it appears that those talks could soon come to fruition, after he made a stunning appearance at Monday Night RAW.

And as an added bonus, viewing figures received a nine per cent boost compared to last year with The Rock returning.

Within this nine per cent increase, there was a 48 per cent rise between people aged 18-49 and a 58 per cent rise between those aged 18-34, showing again how RAW is delivering for its younger viewers.

The unannounced return of Johnson, plus a hyped match-up between Seth Rollins and Drew McIntyre, officials recorded 1.75million viewers on Monday, according to Wrestling Observer.

It also received a 0.60 rating between the 18-49 age group, which are the best figures since CM Punk also made his shock return.

This Monday’s Raw was also up 12 per cent from the show two weeks ago, although that was only a ‘best of’ compilation.

The Johnson segment alone did 2.15 million viewers and the show dropped greatly from that point but did pick back up for the Rollins vs. McIntyre main event.

The number would have been higher had Johnson been advertised, as the only tease before the show was that a former  WWE champion is returning.

Roman Reigns continues to be the holder for the  WWE undisputed heavyweight championship
