Axel, affectionately known as the ‘sumo wrestler’ cat, found himself at a shelter after tipping the scales at a whopping 43 pounds. This weight, far exceeding the average for most cats, resulted in health issues such as arthritis due to the strain on his body. Rescued by Ferdinand and Friends and cared for by director Christina, Axel is now on a remarkable weight loss journey, documented on Instagram and TikTok where he goes by the stage name Biggie Smalls.
Christina, his dedicated owner, hopes that Axel’s progress will serve as inspiration for others with overweight pets. Through Axel’s Instagram page, she provides valuable resources and a detailed guide to help others transform their obese cats into healthier, happier companions.

Christine, a foster parent working with Ferdinand and Friends animal rescue, welcomed Biggie (also known as Axel) into her home. Biggie’s size required assistance from two people to transport him safely.

Even though he was on the larger side, the vet’s initial tests revealed that his blood work was good and he only had arthritis. However, they had some trouble checking his organs properly because of his excess weight.
