Coach Mikel Arteta is currently said to want to push Nuno Tavares away as soon as possible due to Marseille’s “courtship”, despite the fact that he is on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Once brought back from Benfica for a fee of £7 million in the summer of 2021, Tavares was unable to prove himself at the Emirates . The Portuguese defender is not afraid to show his emotions and he made these statements in October 2022:
“At Arsenal, I don’t know if it was a question of competition with Kieran Tierney, but for me it wasn’t even an issue.
I went to Marseille to play my position. When I signed with OM, I wanted a buyout clause, but Arsenal refused.
Together with my agent, we both wanted this clause in our contract, but Arsenal did not. Currently I’m at OM, with or without that clause I’m still happy.
At Arsenal, I’ll probably only be able to play in Cup tournaments .”
