The name Morten Frendrup is attracting a lot of attention from European scouts. The 22-year-old midfielder impressed in the Genoa shirt in Serie A. In the match between Genoa and AS Roma last September, scouts from 11 Premier League clubs attended to watch Morten’s performance.
According to scouts at Luigi Ferraris, Morten can play for any team in the land of fog. So what is the outstanding point of the Danish midfielder?
According to Goal, Liverpool is among the teams closely monitoring Morten’s future . Former Kop player Steven Gerrard is Morten’s childhood idol.
“ I think my playing style can be useful in any tournament, ” the 22-year-old midfielder told Goal. Statistics prove Morten’s statement.
In Serie A this season, Morten made 40 tackles (the most in the tournament), won 133 duels, 130 successful ball recoveries, and 27 accurate interceptions.
The ability to press and put pressure on the opponent are Morten’s strong points. Besides, the Danish morning star still has aspects to improve.
Morten’s passing accuracy rate reached 79%, an unimpressive number despite the fact that he is playing for a team ranked in the middle of the Serie A rankings .
Head coach Alberto Gilardino believes that his student can go further in his career: “Morten is a player who can play anywhere. He is very active, possesses great speed. Morten won the ball, changing the outcome of the match. A reliable player.”
In January 2022, Morten arrived at Genoa from Brondby. The 3.5 million euro contract quickly advanced his career.
“ It’s difficult to leave your hometown. I love Denmark. I look forward to sticking with Brondby. However, when I learned of the interest from Genoa, I was very excited. That’s clearly a big step forward. Genoa plays in one of the top five national leagues in the world,” Morten told Goal.
“Italy has a very different culture from Denmark. Football here is also very different from Denmark. I never thought I made a mistake choosing Genoa . Before coming here, I knew the team was in the red light group. Sometimes taking one step back to take two steps forward is really necessary.”
Morten has a very good relationship in the Genoa dressing room with Albert Gudmundsson. The Danish player also learned a lot from two veteran midfielders: Kevin Strootman and Milan Badelj.
His excellent performance at the club promises to become a stepping stone to help Morten join the Danish national team to attend the EURO 2024 finals. Last November, Morten was called up to the national team but withdrew due to flu.
“If I continue to play well, I will have a chance. The competition is huge. The challenge was really difficult for me. There are good Danish stars playing all over Europe,” Morten shared.
