Look! This is the container ship carrying millions of tons of cargo on board : The largest container ship in the world (Video).

On April 9th, 2022, the largest container ship in the world, the MSC Gülsün, made its maiden call at the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. The ship, which is owned by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), measures 400 meters (1,312 feet) in length and has a capacity of 23,756 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).

The MSC Gülsün was built in South Korea and delivered to MSC in August 2019. It features a number of advanced technologies and design features aimed at improving its efficiency and reducing its environmental impact. For example, the ship is equipped with a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system that can remove sulfur oxide emissions from its exhaust gases, as well as a waste heat recovery system that can convert exhaust heat into energy.

The ship’s arrival at the Port of Rotterdam marked a major milestone for both MSC and the global shipping industry as a whole. The port is one of the busiest in the world, and its location at the heart of Europe makes it a key hub for container shipping. The MSC Gülsün’s ability to carry more containers than any other ship in the world means that it can help to reduce the number of vessels needed to transport goods, which can in turn reduce shipping costs and carbon emissions.

However, the MSC Gülsün’s size and capacity also present significant challenges. For example, the ship is too large to navigate some of the world’s smaller ports, which can limit its ability to serve certain markets. In addition, the ship’s size can make it more difficult to load and unload containers, which can result in longer turnaround times at ports.

Despite these challenges, the MSC Gülsün’s arrival at the Port of Rotterdam was seen as a major achievement for the shipping industry. The ship’s advanced technologies and design features represent a significant step forward in the drive to make container shipping more efficient and sustainable, and its capacity to carry more containers than any other ship in the world has the potential to transform the industry in the years ahead. The MSC Gülsün’s maiden voyage was from the Port of Tianjin in China to the Port of Piraeus in Greece. Since then, it has made stops at ports around the world, including in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

The MSC Gülsün is one of several ultra-large container ships (ULCS) that MSC has ordered in recent years. In total, the company has ordered 11 ULCS vessels, each with a capacity of over 23,000 TEUs.

The rise of ULCS vessels like the MSC Gülsün has led to concerns about the potential impact on smaller ports and shipping routes. Some industry experts worry that the trend towards larger ships could lead to consolidation in the shipping industry, as smaller shipping companies struggle to compete with larger, more efficient vessels.

Despite these concerns, the MSC Gülsün and other ULCS vessels are seen as a key part of efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the shipping industry. By consolidating cargo onto fewer, larger vessels, shipping companies can reduce the number of voyages needed to transport goods, which in turn can lower carbon emissions.

In addition to its environmental features, the MSC Gülsün is equipped with a number of advanced technologies aimed at improving its efficiency and safety. For example, the ship is equipped with a propulsion system that can adjust its speed and direction automatically to improve fuel efficiency, as well as a collision avoidance system that can detect and respond to potential hazards.
