It’s no surprise that Wnba ratings dropped dramatically after Caitlyn Clark’s exit from the playoffs.
While I’m watching the Indiana Fever game, I can’t help but wait for Caitlyn Clark to return because, let’s face it, she’s a Gamechanger.
Meanwhile, Aa Wilson is frustrated over the drop in Wnba playoff ratings and is pointing fingers at Caitlyn.
But why now?
Aa Wilson had previously accused Clark of benefiting from White Privilege and mentioned how she didn’t like playing under the pressure of millions of viewers.
Well, now she got her wish: fewer viewers, but she’s still upset.
What do people really want?
When the Connecticut Sun faced the Indiana Fever in the first round of the playoffs, viewership hit 1.9 million, the highest in Wnba history.
The arena was packed, but once Clark and the fever were knocked out, everything started to go downhill.
The semi-finals between the Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty only attracted 950,000 viewers- a 50% drop, and the attendance it was pretty dismal, with plenty of empty seats.
The truth is, without Caitlyn Clark, people are simply less interested in the Wnba.
The numbers don’t lie.
Clark’s electrifying style from her nol look passes to her jaw-dropping shooting.
Accuracy is what brings eyes to the game.
Yet some are quick to blame other factors.
Aa, after the loss, talked about how tough it is to lose, especially with so much at stake, but she also mentioned how proud she is of her team, considering how far they’ve come.
While it’s tough to lose, especially in a high stakes game, the reality is is that the Wnba has lost its biggest star.
Without Clark on the court, the league is slipping back into its regular low ratings.
So is Caitlyn Clark to blame for the poor ratings?
Absolutely not.
The league failed to protect its Most Valuable Player.
Toxic players went after her and referees didn’t give her the call she deserved.
Now the Wnba is paying the price.
The upcoming finals are expected to be the least watched game of the season.
Let’s just hope the league learns from this.
