UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier has responded to the Ronda Rousey rumors surrounding a potential MMA return.
The rumor mill got going when it was reported by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Rousey has a “hard out” date for her WWE departure. This led to many, even UFC fighter Chelsea Chandler, stoking the rumor flames for a Rousey return to MMA competition.
Ariel Helwani has since reported there are no plans for Rousey to make a UFC comeback.
During an episode of ESPN’s “DC & RC,” Daniel Cormier explained why he isn’t sold on the Ronda Rousey rumors.
“I don’t know that she needs to come back to fighting,” Cormier said. “Ronda Rousey has so many things going on in her life right now. I feel like she’s gonna walk away from the WWE, but because she’s gonna walk away from the WWE, it’s starting to make people excited because if she’s not in the WWE, what’s she doing?”
Cormier believes Rousey has set herself up in a position to where she doesn’t need to fight again.
“I don’t think Ronda needs to be doing combat sports, I don’t think Ronda needs to be doing anything physical right now,” Cormier said. “She has the opportunity to do whatever she wants. Ronda’s made her own rules.”
Cormier also mentioned that he doesn’t feel Rousey walked away from pro MMA competition due to her quick TKO loss against Amanda Nunes back in late 2016. “DC” expressed his belief that things simply wouldn’t be easy for Rousey in the UFC today.
