The boxer has had his say on what is a very complex issue
Jake Paul has offered to create a ‘fair fight’ for Italian boxer Angela Carini after she lost at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games against Algeria’s Imane Khelif.
Perhaps the biggest media storm of the Olympics so far has been created thanks to this fight, as much of the world has decided that Khelif is effectively a man despite her being documented as a woman and hailing from a country where conversion therapy is illegal.
Carini appeared to opt out of the fight soon after it started, feeling that she was up against a man rather than a woman.
Khelif has been banned from prior competitions for failing genetic testing. The International Boxing Association (IBA) disqualified Khelif after discovering that the boxer had XY chromosomes.
In a 2023 statement, IBA said: “Based on DNA tests, we identified a number of athletes who tried to trick their colleagues into posing as women. According to the results of the tests, it was proved that they have XY chromosomes. Such athletes were excluded from competitions.”
Jake Paul shares misinformation
The Olympics decided that Khelif and another athlete that was banned by the IBA were eligible to compete in Paris, but Carini said after the fight that ‘she had never been hit so hard in her life’.
Khelif has been beaten nine times by other female boxers in her career and there was no uproar over her involvement.
Sharing a video with a fabricated caption that said ‘Angela Carini is forced to fight a biological male’, Jake Paul said: “This is sickening. This is a travesty. Doesn’t matter what you believe. This is wrong and dangerous.”
He then went on to offer Carini an opportunity: “To Angela Carini although your dreams couldn’t come true today because of the crazy agendas that are at play in our world at the moment, I would love to offer you to fight on an MVP undercard, to show the world your talents on a fair platform and not against a man. Internet help this find her.”
