Ryan Garcia has notoriously attracted headlines within the boxing sphere for the past few months. His win over WBC 140-lbs champion Devin Haney was quite a spectacle. But surrounding that, he got into pools of trouble and blame for his own making. It is something that haunts him even now. In light of that, father Henry Garcia pitches in.

Before his fight, ‘King Ry’ had quite the narrative going of being short a few marbles. He did win the fight by majority decision, though. However, fans presented that was more of a case of the ‘Dream’ not being good enough. Devin Haney did (allegedly) smell alcohol on him and kept the “Ryan Garcia does coke” trend on. Garcia also chugged a few before his weigh-ins. Now, the father cautions changes:

I haven’t spoken to Ryan in a long time. He speaks to his mother more than me. But it’s okay, he’ll call me when he wants to. I would love for him to get some type of therapy when it comes to his drinking. I’m being real. He says he can control it. I hope he can. But if he doesn’t – get that therapy so he can stop.

While much of it was pre-fight buzz, some of it lingered. Garcia is back to 24-1-1 (20 KOs), with his win now a no-contest. The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) has imposed a severe ban and $10,000 in fines for failing his post-fight test pool. Henry Garcia says he does not know how long such vices persist but suggests therapy. The son had his tale to tell.

I don’t even drink anymore. My dad doesn’t know what he is talking about. I literally was just talking to him - and he has apologized

Despite a false positive for 19-Norandrosterone, Ryan Garcia tested in the green for Ostarine. This did not speak to his vices and turned out so due to a contaminated product. Yet, the blame persists. ESPN‘s sixth-best active junior welterweight and a top #3 welterweight, Garcia, has had a mean-spirited turnover. Sporting more timber in the midriff, he is away from the boxing life. Now, all supports are fading.

WBC President pens heartfelt message for ‘still’ champ Devin Haney

It must be a ‘Dream.’ Just days ago, Ryan Garcia wobbled WBC super-lightweight champ Devin Haney quite a few times to prove his superiority. Now, he is stepping away from boxing due to a year-long NYSAC-imposed suspension. This corners him, failing testing pools both before and after the fight.

Tests showed Ostarine, a banned substance, in both his initial “A” sample and “B” sample. The 25-year-old maintained he consumed contaminated products without knowing. Yet his win is overturned now. Realistically, he could reapply for a license in just ten months. Meanwhile, Garcia suggests crossing over to UFC.

It’s one thing for Henry Garcia or his brother Sean Garcia to be worried for him due to a lack of communication. The pro boxer had spoofed being attacked by assailants and satanic cultists. So, the worry or even the wavering support is natural.

Even Regis Prograis, who once said Haney’s loss was due to karma and bad relations rather than PED Usage, tells SecondsOut Boxing that Garcia should get therapy. It’s a whole other thing for WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman to veer the totality of his support to Devin Haney instead.

Their longtime association comes from both knowing reputed fight agent Don Majeski. Sulaiman has been there for much of Haney’s climb to fame, from a 15-year-old kid to the WBC 140-lbs standout. Sulaiman even lauds his “professionalism” in agreeing to face Garcia, who had quite the weigh-in advantage. These might not bode well for Garcia’s future in the long term.
