This morning, the semi-finals and finals of the Paris 2024 Olympic surfing event took place in Tahiti and determined the champion.
Surfing is the most special sport at the Paris Olympics, as it is held in the French overseas territory of Tahiti, nearly 16,000 km from the capital Paris. Athletes have traveled a long way to the island, facing the most terrible waves in the world to compete for Olympic medals.
Gabriel Medina, the Brazilian athlete famous for his aerial photography, lost in the semi-finals to Jack Robinson of Australia, with the two athletes scoring 6.33 and 12.33 respectively. In the final, Jack Robinson faced home athlete Kauli Vaast, who won the semi-finals against Alonso Correa of Peru.

Surfing is a sport for adventurous athletes, and requires the participation of a lifeguard team who knows the waves well. In addition, there is a team in the watchtower that constantly updates the weather situation. After each athlete’s competition, the rapid response rescue team will drive the canoe to bring the athlete back to safety, preparing for the next competition.
Although Brazilian athlete Gabriel Medina could not win gold, his bronze medal was an improvement over his performance at the Tokyo Olympics (ranked 4th). The athlete born in 1993 will return home with a medal around his neck, along with unforgettable memories of being the main character in the most famous photo of the Olympics, and considered one of the most impressive sports photos of all time.
