A recent heartwarming rescue involved a 73-year-old elephant named Sook Jai, who had endured a lifetime of captivity and abuse.
This rescue was orchestrated by a compassionate woman volunteer from the Save Elephant Foundation in Thailand.
Sook Jai’s past was filled with hardship, having been used for tourist rides and various laborious tasks. As she aged, she developed health issues, ultimately losing her sight and most of her hearing.
Fortunately, the dedicated volunteers at Save Elephant Foundation stepped in to rescue her from her miserable existence.
The renowned singer Joan Baez generously sponsored Sook Jai’s rescue, ensuring she could spend her remaining years in peace and comfort.
When the rescuers arrived, they found Sook Jai with multiple wounds on her head and body, a testament to the years of mistreatment she had endured.
Once everything was arranged, a team of volunteers embarked on a 20-hour road journey to bring Sook Jai to her new home.
Despite the long and challenging trip, the rescuers were committed to making Sook Jai comfortable.
Though she was hungry, Sook Jai was too exhausted to eat. The volunteers kept her warm during the cold nights and cool during the warmer parts of the day.
For perhaps the first time, Sook Jai experienced genuine care and affection, which moved her to tears.
This emotional moment underscored her newfound freedom. After the arduous journey, Sook Jai finally arrived at the sanctuary, where she could live out her days in happiness and safety.
